What is a Temperate Supply Chain?
The expression Temperate Supply Chain is a little unfamiliar to some, but we quickly recognised that it is going to be an important part of our future and have taken steps to ensure that it becomes an integral part of the Polar Speed offer.
But what does temperate really mean in the context of the supply chain? This is what the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has to say about ‘temperate chain products’:
EU requirements and guidelines on Good Distribution Practice (GDP) require distributors to ‘ensure that storage conditions are observed at all times, including during transportation’.
The requirements are applicable not only to medicines that need to be stored at low temperatures (known as cold chain products) but also to medicines that should be stored below 25oC or 30oC (known as temperate chain products).
With such legislation in place it is important that supply chain providers react quickly to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry – and we have already invested heavily in temperate technology such that we will shortly have the first ever fleet (all 100+ vehicles) that is entirely temperate friendly.
